STUDENT SUPPORTS
Our classroom teachers, guidance counsellors, student success teachers, learning resource teachers, administration, educational support staff, office professionals and custodians all want to help you succeed and will encourage you to be your best self both in and outside of school. We are here to help you, not only with your transition to high school, but throughout your entire time at OSDSS.

Transition programs support the successful transition from Grade 8 to 9. OSDSS provides a comprehensive orientation for students and their families that include:
- Guidance and Student Success visits to all community elementary BW schools
- Grade 8 Open House and Information evening (parent and student)
- Course selection assistance
- Grade 8 visits and tours at OSD
- Orientation to secondary school with senior student mentors
Mental Health Counsellor
- Alison Hogan visits OSDSS all day on and Tuesdays and Wednesdays, and every other Monday in the Guidance Office

- no charge for services

- Anne Marie Vachon visits OSDSS all day on Tuesdays

Attendance Counsellor and Student Support
- Tracy Smyth visits our school Mondays and Wednesdays
- Student success teachers, administrators and guidance counsellors refer students who may require extra support and/or have attendance concerns
- Tracy also works to support our Supervised Alternative Learning applicants
Student Health Centre
- Amanda McManaman, a Public Health Nurse, from Grey Bruce Health Unit visits every Thursday
- provides support for students (healthy sexuality, 2SLGBTQ, healthy relationships, tobacco and vaping support, harm reduction and healthy lifestyles
YMCA Employment Counselling
- Stacy Gulliver from the Y visits every other week on Thursdays
- provides assistance with resumes, cover letters, and job searches
- students can request an appointment and sign up in Guidance
